Sound Walk
As I walk on Lexington avenue looking around my surroundings and listening rather than observing, I heard many things. I heard high school girls walking down the block, they seem to have just finished school as they came in packs. I heard loud cackles and giggles from the various groups along with various spurts of conversation. The conversations were too loud and all happening at once for me to make out one word that was being said. All their voices merged into one loud noise. I heard the wind blowing against the trees. The trees create a hum throughout the city for everyone to hear. Every few people that pass by, there is a person talking to someone on the phone. From one person I heard them say, “I won't be able to make it tonight.” I heard buses passing by with their loud brake sounds as there was traffic on the street. Along with honking coming from cars that become frustrated with fellow cars driving the same way as them. I heard cars turning away from Lexington going over puddles that make a subtle splash. These are the things that you would normally hear in a huge city like New York City. City life is never quiet, there is always someone outside, something happening or some kind of chaos. These sounds are expected as I have lived in the city my whole life. For someone coming from a rural area, the loudness of the city might come as a shock for them. I have become accustomed to the sound and I enjoy it. I would not want to be in a completely quiet city while I go about my day. New York City has a loud aggressive vibe that I believe is uniquely inviting and special.

Define a Space
This is my film about a Hunter student. The films interpretation is decided by the viewer. The student in the film is looking off into the distance and thinking. She ponders while everything and everyone else in the school continues to go about their day. There is a lot more than reaches the eye in these clips:https://vimeo.com/759316748

Amanda's Artist Statement
Creativity has always come to me in diverse ways throughout my life. I have always wanted to create videos with my cousins and friends since I was young. I was inspired by YouTubers and artists that would broadcast their life to the world. Currently, I have gained interest in photography, and it unlocked a whole new world of creativity and inspiration. Traveling sparked inspiration because there are many places to see in the world. Each country and city have its own unique story to tell. I believe pictures/films can capture the essence of an experience. I love the idea of being able to express emotions through a shot. Taking a picture of someone that is laughing or smiling can grasp the moment. I think it's fascinating that when someone looks back at the picture, they can feel the same feeling they had at that moment. Even better, another person can feel the emotions radiating from the picture and it was not their own experience. I want to give people all kinds of feelings through photography allowing them to gain a sense of belonging in this world. There are certain aesthetics that artists have that intrigue me like Doja Cat and Tyler the Creator. I think it's important to be true to yourself and not care what others think. Both artists pride themselves on being fully authentic. I look up to that because I want my aesthetic as a creator to be the same. Radiating authenticity brings out good in people.
