As I walk on Lexington avenue looking around my surroundings and listening rather than observing, I heard many things. I heard high school girls walking down the block, they seem to have just finished school as they came in packs. I heard loud cackles and giggles from the various groups along with various spurts of conversation. The conversations were too loud and all happening at once for me to make out one word that was being said. All their voices merged into one loud noise. I heard the wind blowing against the trees. The trees create a hum throughout the city for everyone to hear. Every few people that pass by, there is a person talking to someone on the phone. From one person I heard them say, “I won't be able to make it tonight.” I heard buses passing by with their loud brake sounds as there was traffic on the street. Along with honking coming from cars that become frustrated with fellow cars driving the same way as them. I heard cars turning away from Lexington going over puddles that make a subtle splash. These are the things that you would normally hear in a huge city like New York City. City life is never quiet, there is always someone outside, something happening or some kind of chaos. These sounds are expected as I have lived in the city my whole life. For someone coming from a rural area, the loudness of the city might come as a shock for them. I have become accustomed to the sound and I enjoy it. I would not want to be in a completely quiet city while I go about my day. New York City has a loud aggressive vibe that I believe is uniquely inviting and special.
